Foundation announces gift to name facility the Great Southern Bank Arena

Signage will be replaced by the beginning of 2022-23 basketball season
Next time you watch the Bears or Lady Bears dribble down the home court (or attend a concert or special event), you'll be in Missouri State University's Great Southern Bank Arena. The naming, which was confirmed during a closed session of the Board of Governors yesterday, takes effect immediately.
"Missouri State is a pillar in southwest Missouri and beyond, providing our communities significant educational, cultural, recreational and economic opportunities. The prospect of adding the Great Southern name to the arena was met with great enthusiasm and interest by our team," Great Southern Bank President and CEO Joe Turner said.
The $5.5 million gift from Great Southern Bank will pay down a portion of the bonds associated with the arena.
"Great Southern Bank has given to all areas of the university," said MSU President Clif Smart. "They are a phenomenal partner in supporting academics, scholarships and athletics, and we are grateful for their leadership in the community."
Legacy of giving
Turner, a long-time friend and supporter of the university, has served on the Board of Governors for the university, as well as on the Board of Trustees for the foundation.
The gift continues a legacy of giving to the Missouri State Foundation. The financial institution has given to Missouri State every year since the foundation's inception in 1981, noted Brent Dunn, executive director of the MSU Foundation.
"With our history and shared values with the university, we believe that this level of support is a natural fit," Turner said. "We are honored to have our name associated with this venue, which is the center of so many activities and life events in our community."
