Children's Behavioral Services partners with Pizza Americana for children's event

Children's Behavioral Services recently announced the company's partnership with Pizza Americana for an event for children on Mon., March 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CBS focuses on providing therapeutic services for children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental delays. Sensory sensitivity, over stimulation with noises, and hand and eye coordination are a few of the obstacles that CBS's Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) work to help children overcome. CBS also employs Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and soon, a Speech Pathologist.

Activities like working with playdoh and sensory bins filled with different textures (rice, dried pasta, cotton balls, shredded paper, etc.) are typically incorporated into the sensory integration therapy. Waggoner explains how Pizza Americana and CBS united for an interactive sensory night, "I am fairly new in my role as the Marketing Director at CBS, so I have been doing a lot of research about the company and ABA Therapy in general. Sensory therapy immediately made me think of the pizza-making-process and how great it would be to offer a different, practical perspective for children. I met with Lori Foster [owner of Pizza Americana] and explained the vision and goal. Lori was immediately on board and she said that she had already done something similar with the local Head Start programs."

The event is scheduled for Mon., March 17 and will start at 5:00 p.m. Pizza Americana is typically closed on Mondays, however, the restaurant is opening exclusively for this event and will provide dough and toppings for sensory bins, as well as give a behind-the-scenes tour of the restaurant. CBS will be purchasing pizza for the children and parents in attendance while also leading the sensory based activities. Registration is free for the children to attend, however, there are only around five spots left. To register, visit childrensbehavioralservices.com and click on the "Events" tab.
