Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt Underway

For the fourth year in a row, the City of West Plains Electric Department is asking residents to ‘Find the Lights.’ For those unfamiliar with the game, the electric department has developed a scavenger hunt for families who drive around and view the Christmas lights. Scattered amongst the many snowflake decorations hanging around town are specially marked snowflakes featured a single blue, red or green light. If you need a little help along the way, a map which reveals the locations of the hidden light is available at West Plains City Hall. When picking up the map don’t forget to grab a candy cane, courtesy of the electric department.

While the scavenger hunt has been going on each Christmas since 2018, the game has been played longer. “The game started internally,” said Public Works Director Jeff Hanshaw. “We started doing it for our families and our kids and over the years the public started noticing the seemingly random blue or red light. We realized this could be fun for the whole community and grew into the scavenger hunt we have today.”
