WANTED: the biggest and best of Howell County’s gardens

Howell County News will host a contest for the BIGGEST GARDEN PRODUCE at the 2026 Bear City Fall Festival. A blue ribbon and cash prize will be available for the biggest, heaviest specimens of each kind entered during the fall festival. Flowers, herbs, and edible things of all kinds are welcome. To enter, simply bring your biggest and best harvest bounty to the Howell County News booth across the street from G&W Food on the morning of the festival. All entries must be received by 11:30 a.m. Judging begins at noon.
In the meantime, we would love to see the biggest and best things you’re harvesting this summer. Got an 11-lb yam? A cabbage as big as your head? A tomato that looks like a rubber duck? Bring them to the news office for a photo and enjoy your 15 minutes of fame!
