Construction Resumes at Future Site of Family Dollar

Complications raised by MoDOT have delayed construction at the future site of Family Dollar on Main St. in Willow Springs. At the March 18 meeting, City Administrator Beverly Hicks informed the City Council of MoDOT’s concerns regarding potential traffic congestion.

“They did not like the entrance coming off Cherry, not off the main road,” Hicks told the Council.
MoDOT had had the development plans for some time before raising an issue with the entrance, and Hicks reported she disagreed with their findings and said she felt “like that was a hindrance for our economic development.”
MoDOT Traffic Engineer Mike Wake met with Hicks at Casey’s at the other end of town to discuss traffic congestion concerns comparable to the organization’s concerns for future congestion at Family Dollar. Hicks reported she told Wake that those issues cannot be compared because there are separate issues with traffic at Casey’s that will not be present at Family Dollar, such as school traffic and gas pumps. MoDOT has since signed off on the Family Dollar site plans and construction has resumed.

Developer Guffey Properties has petitioned the City for creation of a Community Improvement District (CID), which will be discussed at the April City Council meeting.
