Dumpster fire quickly extinguished

A fire in a dumpster in the 100 block of East Main in Willow Springs was quickly extinguished Saturday night thanks to the quick action of Officer Joe Barnhouse of the Willow Springs Police and Fire Departments.
“The quick actions of Barnhouse are commendable and very consistent with his skills, knowledge, and abilities. I consider it a blessing that we have him on our team, and I know that the Chief of Police concurs to the value he brings to both of our organizations,” commented Assistant Chief Alan Lewis Monday morning.
The call for service came in at approximately 8:30 p.m. Officer Barnhouse was first on scene and moved the dumpster into the alleyway away from buildings. This prevented exposing the surrounding businesses and homes to the flames leaping from the container.
