Howell County Addresses Cybersecurity Issues

Howell County will conduct a comprehensive analysis of its computer systems. The county will contract with Stronghold Data of Joplin, Mo., Presiding Commissioner Ralph Riggs announced Friday. According to the county’s announcement, the move is a “major step towards ensuring the security of its computer network.”
The analysis will involve a thorough examination of the network infrastructure, including the county's servers, workstations, and other devices on the network. This includes connections between the courthouse, the annex, sheriff’s office and the Emergency Operations Center. The primary goal of the evaluation will be to identify and address any security-related risks that could potentially compromise the county's data or operations.
“With any network connected to the internet there are always concerns that the security measures that are in place are sufficient to detect and thwart an attack on our system,” Commissioner Riggs said.  “And also, to assure that our backup systems are working as designed. This is a routine measure that would locate any security/backup issues that may exist in our systems.”
The evaluation will assess the effectiveness of the county's data backup methods and procedures. In the event of a cyber-attack or system failure, it is crucial to have a reliable and efficient backup system in place to ensure that data can be quickly and easily restored.
Commissioner Riggs emphasized the importance of safeguarding the county's computer network, noting that the analysis will provide valuable insights into the security statis of the county's IT infrastructure. He stated that the county is committed to protecting its data and ensuring that its computer network remains secure.
The evaluation is expected to be completed within the next few months, after which Stronghold Data will provide a detailed report of their findings and recommendations. The results of the analysis will be used to strengthen the county's IT security measures and enhance the resilience of its computer network.
