West Plains High School named Brock Kenega the Head Coach for their 2025-2026 high school football season. Kenega has 28 years of coaching experience under his belt. He served as an assistant coach for Buffalo High School before spending 27 years back in his hometown at Liberty High School, where he was a part of several Conference and District Championships along the way. He served as a head coach for Liberty from 2020-2023. Kenega will be teaching a weightlifting class at West Plains High School during the school year.
Kenega says becoming a Zizzer, "was a learning curve. Meeting a whole new coaching staff, new players, and new competition against teams I had never competed against."
Kenega says he was welcomed with open arms and has been treated great by coaches, school administration, and parents. "The one thing that drew me to West Plains was tradition and I was not disappointed. They want to excel in everything they do," Kenega said about becoming a Zizzer.
Players seem enthusiastic about Kenaga as head coach too.
“Coach Kenaga has had a lot of experience coaching. I’ve only played for him as my Defensive Coordinator, but I have faith in his ability to be our Head Coach and I’m excited to see what next year holds,” commented Jaxon Hunter, a three-year starter and 2-time Lineman of the Year for the Zizzers.
On the pressure of being a Head Coach in West Plains, Kenega says, "There really isn't more pressure on me at West Plains. The only pressure I really feel is from my own standards that I have always placed on myself. I have always held my teams to a higher standard -- both on and off the field and that will not change at West Plains. We want our young men to grow both physically and emotionally so that they turn into great MEN. We will do that with work ethic and holding ourselves accountable to both the Team and our community."
Among his achievements, his greatest accomplishment in 28 years of coaching are the 15 former players he has coached that have gone on to be football coaches. He takes great pride in knowing these former players have gone on to lead young men the way he led them.
