Man charged for assaulting two children

A Raymondville man remains in custody on a $500,000 bond after sexually assaulting two children under the age of eight. James W. Crider, 76, was charged Monday with two felony counts of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy.
The charges stem from a report received by the Texas County Sherriff’s Office on March 30, according to a press release. A deputy spoke with the family and made arrangements for forensic interviews of the victims at the child advocacy center.
Deputies proceeded to interview Crider on April 7. According to the release, during the interview Crider admitted to sexual contact with the children and blamed the contact on the actions of the children.
As of press time, there are no pending court date in this matter.
