Mtn. View VFW Hosts Flag Disposal

The Mountain View VFW Post 3009 hosted a flag disposal ceremony on September 12 at their hall located on Y Highway in Mountain View.
Post Commander James Gould acted as the master of ceremonies, explaining to those present the purpose of a formal flag disposal.
“A flag represents all that our dear country stands for; a free nation of free men and women, true to the faith of the past, and devoted to the ideals and practice of justice, freedom, and democracy,” he said at the ceremony.
117 flags were properly folded, presented by the color guard, and duly burned by the VFW post. Commander Gould said the flags came to the VFW for disposal from many diverse sources. Businesses, residents, and others are in the practice of bringing worn out flags to the VFW to be “destroyed with solemn dignity by burning.”
