Partial demolition of historic building

The garage of the William Sass Building in downtown Willow was demolished on Monday, said building owner Tom Smith. The garage is the northernmost end of the building’s first story.
There is no planned disruption to traffic, Smith said, no inconveniences to those living and working downtown.
Smith and his wife bought the building, formerly the location of Willow Tree Café, Mugs Coffee, and RadioShack, at a foreclosure auction on February 2. He said his goal is to improve the appearance of the building. He hopes to find someone interested in running the restaurant on the first floor. Smith plans to renovate the second and third floors into apartments.
“Peeling plywood does not speak of a thriving downtown,” Smith told Howell County News last Thursday.
Smith and his wife have lived in the area since 2017. They are originally from Illinois.
