A West Plains man claimed the prize in the United Federated Republican Women’s (UFRW) annual fundraising raffle. According to UFRW President Elaine McGee, club members sell tickets all year long to raise funds for activities like monetary gifts to food pantries, the Pregnancy Resource Center of West Plains, Salutes, and the V.A. They have also sponsored political events aimed at educated voters, including the Howell County News Legislative Candidate debate. This year’s fundraising provided four scholarships to conservative senior girls across the 8th U.S. Congressional District.
Raffle Winner David Shockley won an 18-gun Liberty Centurion gun safe.
The last month has been a busy and fruitful one, McGee told Howell County News. In addition to their monthly meetings, the UFRW have managed several service projects. On First Responder Appreciation Day on October 28, club members traveled around to all area police and fire departments to hand deliver bowls of Lifesavers candy. After November flooding damaged their monthly meeting place, Ostermeier Brewing Company, the club lent a hand- both monetarily and literally. McGee herself applied the elbow grease to help clean the dining room. As usual, the club participated in the annual Veteran’s Day parade and helped to serve the following lunch.
