Ribbon Cutting at Willow Springs Skate Park

The final project of Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities in Willow Springs, the skate park in American Legion was the site of a ribbon cutting on September 18. Featuring two curved ramps, multiple rails, and a newly poured concrete pad, the park is officially open for use by the skaters of the community.
“It’s already seen some good use,” said coordinator Freda Carr with a smile as she pointed out the signs of wear on the rails.
Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities has poured $114,000 in grant funds into projects in Willow Springs since 2015 including Yoga by the Lake, children’s cooking classes, free swim events at the Willow Springs Water Park, new fountains for all the parks, healthy concessions at the pool, and playground equipment and basketball hoops.
Members of the Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce, City of Willow Springs employees, Aldermen Phil Knott and Danny Bradley, Police Chief Bryan Hogan, and kids excited about skating were present at the ribbon cutting. Carr prepared a table of active toys like balls and hula hoops as free gifts for the children who attended, and each one left loaded with gifts.
