A semi truck driver attempted a U-turn on Main Street near Sunshine Dr. and lodged his vehicle in the turf, blocking traffic on Main St. on December 17 for about 90 minutes. Officer Ben Bishop responded to the scene and directed traffic around the obstacle.
According to Officer Bishop, the driver, Jean Lumonet of Lehigh Acres, Fla., had a temporary CDL license and was off the course his GPS plotted. When Lumonet realized he was lost, he attempted an illegal and dangerous U-turn. After the semi turned in the parking lot at Main and Sunshine, the truck continued over the turf, into the road, and became lodged in the ditch on Midwest Walnut’s property.
Lumonet was cited for an illegal U-turn and property damage. Midway Towing pulled the semi back onto the roadway, and the drive continued on his way.
Despite the inconvenience of the road block, Officer Bishop said, “It worked out pretty well.”
