Twin Bridges FD fundraising for a new firehouse

A fundraiser at the Twin Bridges firehouse raised $4,411 towards a new firehouse. The community, and its firefighting and first responder needs are growing. The fire department board established a building committee and have taken the first steps toward making the larger facility a reality.

On Saturday night, there department held its spring fundraising dinner featuring an auction and gun raffle. The gun raffle alone raised $1,980, and the auction made up the difference. Gary Smith was the gun raffle winner.

In these early stages, there is not a specific fundraising goal. The FD is working with Douglas County, SCOCOG, Representative Matthew Overcast's office, and Senator Brad Hudson's office to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Missouri Dept of Economic Development – a time-intensive process. The U.S. Forestry service will lease the land, and the committee is actively seeking the best location.

Once the lease is in place, the department will seek bids for dirt work, concrete, the building, electrical, plumbing, and anything else that is needed.

TBFD has at least fundraisers each year – in spring, summer (August Primary season), and fall (deer season). Monies raised at these events fill in the funding gaps that membership fees do not cover.

Membership dues or donations may be mailed to Twin Bridges Volunteer Fire Department, RR 1 Box 172A, Willow Springs, MO 65793.
