Wendell Bailey Way Announced at 80th Birthday Party

An annual event that never fails to attract elected officials, as well as hopeful candidates in election years, Wendell Bailey’s birthday party took place at the reservoir in Willow Springs on July 31. Despite the drizzling rain, the party was well attended. Bailey family members were on hand in full force. John Bailey offered a blessing over the food, and eighteen-year-old Jackson Bailey gave a speech on the subject of the inspiration his grandfather continues to be at eighty years of age.
Legislative bodies were well represented with Megan Nikki from Congressman Jason Smith’s office, Sen. Mike Cunningham, Rep. David Evans, Rep. Karla Eslinger, and Rep. Robert Ross in attendance. Incumbent Commissioners Billy Sexton and Bill Lovelace were on hand as well as the three contenders for Lovelace’s Northern District seat: Kathleen Hensley, Calvin Wood, and Jake Clinton.
Candidate for Howell County Sheriff, Chief Bryan Hogan of the Willow Springs Police Department, was present as well. Rep. David Gregory, all the way from St. Louis County, attended as Rep. Evans’ guest. Gregory will mount a campaign for State Auditor in the next election cycle against incumbent Democrat Nicole Galloway.
One of the publicly presented gifts Bailey received was a mounted display of the plans for the planned Wendell Bailey Way which will be built in the new construction surrounding the Southern Hills Shopping Center.
