West Plains woman hurt after car strikes dog

A West Plains woman suffered serious injuries in a crash at 7:50 a.m. on March 23 on Highway 63 five miles south of West Plains. Penny Manes, 57, was airlifted to a Springfield hospital after the vehicle in which she was a passenger struck a dog in the roadway. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, struck a mailbox, and ejected Manes, who was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver, Kenneth Manes, 65, suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. He was reported to be wearing a seatbelt.
