Edward Lee Young

Edward Lee Young was born on December 30, 1946, the son of Ralph Travis and Dorothy Helen (Branner) Young, and passed away at Mountain View Healthcare on November 18, 2020, after losing his battle with COVID-19.
He is survived by his children, Robert Ashley Young and wife Lisa of Hobart, IN, Brett Young and wife of Wicasette, MI; grandchildren, Lauren Young and Adam Young of Hobart, IN; brother, Ralph Young, Jr.; and sister, Florence (Joann) Young Derryberry, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edward is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Young; his mother, Dorothy (Branner) Young; three brothers, Leroy Young and William Young of Springfield, MO, Donald Eugene Young of Eufaula, OK.

Edward was an avid baseball player and pitcher. His love for God and people was the reason he wanted to become a full-time minister. It is also what encouraged him to turn down the invitation from the St. Louis Cardinals, to be a rookie for their team.  He wanted to share his love and faith with others.

He was a faithful member of the Mountain View, MO congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and regularly attended until his health held him back from going.

He looked forward to the Spiritual guidance, the learning, and the association with his young friends who would often come to shake hands and speak to him as well as enjoying the rest of the congregation.

Bruce developed a brotherly friendship with Frank Austin of his faith who was able to visit and encourage and share videos of his faith with him and play cards.

He also became very close to his nephew Carl Derryberry who visited him often and helped him get set up for his meals.

Edward spoke of his two sons, Bob and Brett, often and missed them and loved them.

Edward moved to Mountain View in 2016 to reunite with his sister, whom he had not seen for 25 years. They enjoyed spending time revisiting spiritual times they shared as well as family and friend’s history.

Ed’s favorite video song was, “Just Around the Corner,” and he had faith that the life God promised mankind was just around the corner and soon would be fulfilled.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services are pending at this time. Arrangements were under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri.  Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
