Janet Edna Elam

Janet Edna Elam, 84 of Mountain View, Missouri, went to her heavenly home and back to the love of her life, Bob, on the morning of Tuesday, August 27, 2024, after a long and hard-fought battle with dementia.  She was born on September 23, 1939, in Mountain View, Missouri, to Raymond Cooper and Anna Gatchel (Rockwell) and was a beloved sister.

Janet proceeds her husband Roland “Bob” Elam (2015) in death. Janet was survived by her three loving children, Sharon King of Mount Pleasant, WI, Sandy Francis of Mountain View, MO, and Tim (Wendy) Elam of Fair Grove, MO;  nine grandchildren, Jason Francis of Springfield, MO, Kristina (Tom Faber) King of Mount Pleasant, WI, Lacy Perkins of Bentonville, AR, Megan (Adam) Ashwell of Arlington, VA, Tyler (Amy Frink) Elam of Ozark, MO, Nikole Elam of Rolla, MO, Khalid Elam of Springfield, MO,  Lanee’ (Jeff) Hasenkamp of Saint Louis, MO, Melanie (Geoff Addington) King of Cleveland, OH; and a host of additional foster grandchildren over the years;  nine great-grandchildren including Kara, Allie and Cade Francis, Tucker Elam, Arthur Ashwell, Parker and Cooper Hasenkamp, and Addie and Amelia Addington;  including her namesake great grand-puppy, Elli Janet of Mount Pleasant, WI.

Janet and Bob were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church of Mountain View on September 23, 1957, on her 18th birthday.  They were blissfully married for 57 years prior to his call to the Lord in August of 2015. They spent many years working in his auto body shop in Mountain View together. Janet was a go-to seamstress and was known for her amazing cooking and baked goods, specifically her M&M and sugar cookies. The thousands of M&M cookies and hundreds of meals she made and sent to the First Baptist Church for any and every occasion will always be remembered.  She loved to sew, golf, and go to yard sales and had a vast collection of frogs and fabric. But most of all, she loved her family.

Later in her life, Janet was called by the Lord to serve as a weekend caretaker at the Mountain View Agape House for over 10 years.  She was a woman of service and would help anyone in need. She had many “adopted” family members over the years, who can all attest to her generosity and loving spirit.

The family would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the compassionate care and support that the Three Rivers Hospice Team of West Plains, MO, provided to Janet during her final months.

Janet was a cherished member of the Mountain View Community and First Baptist Church.
