Proverbs 16:33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord. (Douay-Rheims Bible)
Entering 2022, the last three years have taught us the unpredictable nature of life. However, that is not to suggest that recent events have happened randomly.
According to King Solomon, "Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord," or in other words, "Unpredictable occurrences are actually planned by God to achieve His exclusive will." While some individuals might feel threatened, believers are encouraged.
Consider King David's words, "But I hoped in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My lots are in thy hands... (Psalms 31:14-15, Greek Septuagint - Ps. 30:14-15)."
"My lots are in thy hand..." means that all the possible variables/outcomes for this new year and for the rest our lives are controlled by God. No matter what might happen, the future is predetermined and selected by Him.
After honestly searching for divine wisdom (James 1:5) and walking in the light of God's Truth (1 John 1:5-7) rather than our own twisted agenda, we can confidently face anything with a peaceful attitude knowing that God is directing our path, "Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom. In all thy ways acquaint thyself with her (Wisdom), that she may rightly direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own conceit; but fear God and depart from all evil. Then shall there be health to thy body, and good keeping to thy bones (Proverbs 3:5-8, Greek Septuagint."
Heavenly Father, help us realize that all the events we face, good or bad, are under Your control. Strengthen our faith and help us submit to Your hand that casts each lot into our lap, knowing the experience is for our eternal benefit instead of selfish interests during this brief life. Amen.
