Moment in the Word

2 Corinthians 6:17  "'Come out from them and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.'"
Recently, I visited with an individual who was distraught regarding the latest election results and the immoral course of our nation. The person said they were consumed by the situation to the point of getting up in the middle of the night to check the latest ballot results on the TV news broadcast.
I responded, "You simply must turn loose and let God finish executing His judgment!"
The individual responded, "But how can I? Why doesn't the Church do something?"
I answered, "Because the Church has largely bought into the same materialistic secular system with everyone else!"
In the end of this godless age, two notable women are mentioned in the Revelation. One is the lukewarm, apostate Church of Laodicea who God promises to vomit out because she brags, "I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing." (Revelation 3:17) The other is the whorish world system that wraps her legs around the Beast and boasts, "I sit enthroned as queen. I am not a widow; I will never mourn." (Revelation 18:7). Sadly, both are horribly wrong by rejecting God.
While visiting with the discouraged friend, I drew the parallel to Lot's wife. Although a vast company of people separated from Abraham in Canaan to follow Lot to the Plains of Sodom, after a few years malignant sin took its toll. Like all the other residents, Lot's kinsmen soon became arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not protect the innocent or help the poor and needy. They were haughty and committed detestable, unnatural abominations. Therefore, God did away with them as He saw fit (Ezekiel 16:49-50).
Abraham tried to intervene by pleading for mercy if ten good people could be found in Sodom, but sadly only Lot, his wife, and two daughters were still sensitive to divine intervention. On the night the destroying angels came to evaluate how low the nation had plummeted into degenerate sin; Lot entreated the abusive spectators who gathered around his house. He called them his "brothers." (Genesis 19:7) Doubtless, many in the crowd were former friends or even relatives who accompanied him from Abraham's camp in Canaan, but these depraved monsters were no longer the same associates that he once knew. God had already abandoned them to their own vile affections (Romans 1:26) by turning them over to reprobate minds (Romans 1:28). After they rejected the righteous truth, God personally sent them a deceptive lie to damn their deluded souls. (2 Thessalonians 2:10-11). Thus, judgment is exclusively God's doing, and we have no part to play in its execution!
The damage was done, the verdict was already determined, and all that remained was consignment to hell fire. Sadly, on the verge of being rescued, Lot's wife could not surrender what was already lost. Even while God rained blazing, molten sulfur on the inhabitants of the lowland cities, the woman looked back a final time to friends and family left behind. As they helplessly burned in the conflagration, she was also lost in the process.
Likewise, God will judge every Sodomite nation that celebrates the butchery of 60,000,000 little innocent babies while constantly clamoring for more. Until then, the remnant of God's Elect must renounce the same abominations that others eagerly love! Why? Because this country is not our home, "Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." (Philippians 3:20)

Much like Lot, many friends and relatives must be forsaken as you "go out from her, my people; that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues." (Revelation 18:4). "Go out from the midst of her, and deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD." (Jeremiah 51:45)
