Chapter 6
“Officer Scotty, you gotta see this. They’re in the garage!” The older man, rail thin with wispy tufts of hair floating around his head, hurried toward the closed garage.
“Scott, Officer Scott,” Brian corrected as he hitched up his ever-slipping duty belt.
Mr. Longfeather smacked his hand against the door opener, and the garage door slowly rose. In the dim light, a strange shape began to appear.
“Look at that thing Scotty, it’s bigger ‘en you!”
Brian’s lips pressed together, and he silently reminded himself to be respectful of his elders. But then he saw it. A giant iguana lay on the cool concrete of the garage floor, illuminated only by the dim yellow of an overhead light.
The sight startled him so badly for a moment that one hand fell to the butt of his gun and the other to the can of pepper spray. His heart thundered in his chest, and only sheer pride kept him from turning and running, whether his loose duty belt came with him or not.
“That’s the dangedest alien I ever seen,” Mr. Longfeather slapped Brian on the shoulder causing him to stumble.
“Alien, right,” he took a deep breath and reached for his mic. “406 to dispatch, Charizard is in the garage. I’ll let you decide who to call.”
“You mean Harold, Jaxson’s iguana? How’d he get in there?”
“So, you want them cinnamon rolls I just baked?” Mr. Longfeather asked.
Carol answered over the radio, “yes!”
