What's going on around your county

Hello Howell County!
With the rain and the cold keeps hanging on making maintaining the counties 1,060 miles of roads very challenging.
The Commission has been busy with all the various boards that we sit on locally and regionally. It keeps us busy to keep Howell County moving forward.
The Commission recently awarded some ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to the Arlee Home Fashions to help keep the 120 jobs presently here and to help expand many more jobs in the future for Howell County, in the recently added old Marathon Electric Plant.
The Commission recently went out for bids for new road graders to replace those that are about to expire on the 5-year or 5,000-hour purchase with a guaranteed trade-in value. The bid came in significantly higher than previous bids. We also went out for bids on galvanized corrugated metal culverts that were also drastically higher. The engineering of the replacement of the box culvert with a bridge on County Road 2570 and the end of Allen Street is continuing. The Commission recently approved various bids for the Sheriff’s Office and 37th Judicial Circuit Court.
The Commission recently put one county issue on the August 2nd, ballot in which it asked the voters to consider the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney to be a full-time position.
Willow Springs resident Wendell Bailey recently brought Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler by the Howell County Commissioner’s Office and visited with the Howell County officeholders, while on her campaign swing through the South Central counties of Missouri on her run for Missouri’s Senate seat currently held by Roy Blunt, who is retiring at the end of this year.
The Howell County Court House and the County Offices will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day and will reopen on Tuesday, May 31, at 8:30 a.m. Have a safe Memorial weekend holiday.
The 2020 Howell County plat books are still available for $35 and maps are available for $40 at the Howell County Clerk’s Office.
All the Commissioners are in the office every Monday and Thursday. Come by and see us.
Howell County is a great place to live, work and raise a family!
