What's going on around your county

Hello Howell County!
Wow, summer has arrived with a vengeance. No rain and extremely hot temps for this time of year make the unpaved roads hard and dusty. The road and bridge crews are gearing up for chip and seal maintenance early this year.
The Howell County Commission recently talked with three different internet suppliers about the usage of ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to help with internet services available throughout Howell County. Myles Smith of Howell-Oregon came in with them to outline the COOP’s part in the process. The future looks positive for reliable, high-speed internet throughout Howell County in the future.
The Commission was advised that due to the new standards, Howell County has no bridges that qualify for the federal BRO-Bridge Replacement Program. At this time there is one bridge replacement that is in progress on County Road 2570. We got it approved before the new standards went into effect. Smith and Company Engineering firm representatives came by and gave the commission cost estimates on replacing several Howell County bridges with ARPA Funds.
The Sheriff and Juvenile Offices continue to search for grants to help fund the offices they bring by for the commission to review and approve.
The Commission is looking into upgrading camera security at the courthouse and the Howell County office building and also the purchasing a full body scanner for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Howell County offices will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day and will re-open on Tuesday, July 5 at 8:30 a.m. Get out and celebrate the fourth by attending the Willow Springs Fourth of July Parade. They have a great celebration. Have a safe fourth.
The 2020 Howell County plat books are still available for $35 and maps are available for $40 at the Howell County Clerk’s Office.
All the commissioners are in the office every Monday and Thursday, come by and see us. Howell County is a great place to live, work and raise a family!
