Homeschool Art Adventures celebrates Earth Day with plein air sketching

In honor of Earth Day Jenni Chilton Dodson, art instructor for Homeschool Art Adventures, hosted a plein air event on April 22 for her students. Plein air, a French term meaning "open air," refers to the practice of creating art outdoors, directly inspired by the natural surroundings.

Students from each class arrived equipped with blankets and camping chairs, setting up their own drawing stations across the scenic grounds of the Harlin Museum of West Plains, Mo. The relaxed, informal atmosphere encouraged creativity as students sketched various elements from around the museum, including vibrant spring blooms lovingly planted by the Grandmother's Garden Club of West Plains.

This summer, bi-monthly Summer Arts and Crafts classes will be held at the Harlin Museum on alternating Mondays. Open to students of all ages, these sessions are expected to follow the same group format as the school-year program, with students divided into four age groups ranging from 4 to 18 years old. With 41 students currently participating during the school year, the summer program promises to be a fun and engaging extension of their artistic journey. For more information, interested families can text the instructor Jenni at 573-604-2577.
