Incident at Willow Springs prompts message to parents from superintendent

Dr. Marty Spence, Superintendent of the Willow Springs School Districts made an announcement regarding an incident that occured at the middle school on Friday, Dec. 1.
"This message is to make you aware of an incident that occurred today at the middle school. While I cannot provide specific details of this incident due to federal privacy laws, I do believe it is important I share this with you.
It was brought to our attention that a student had an airsoft gun in a backpack on campus. At no time were students or staff in any danger.
Be assured that we are taking appropriate measures to address the situation in accordance with school policies. Our Student/Parent Handbook outlines the disciplinary consequences for possession of items that cause a disturbance in the school setting and the possession of dangerous weapons or look-alike weapons.
While I will be unable to get into specifics, if you have any questions please contact the school so we can provide you information on our commitment to providing your student a safe learning environment."
