A Moment In The Word

Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever (Isaiah 1:5, NLT)?"

A current national news headline declared: "Model predicts 100,000 more COVID deaths unless U.S. changes its ways!"

Viewed in a spiritual sense, how incredibly poignant, but either way... good luck with the likelihood of "America changing her ways!"

After witnessing the heartbreaking debacle in Afghanistan, the landfall of Hurricane Ida on the plague-ravaged Gulf Coast, and the appearance of a new extremely mutated Covid variant (C.1.2) first detected in South Africa but now in seven other countries throughout Africa, Oceania, Asia and Europe... I then saw the CBS news banner and wondered, "How much more can America endure before we humbly return to God?"

However, hardly had I noticed the first headline before spying a local interest story announcing a rescheduled event nearby in the mid-Missouri heartland.  Although originally cancelled, the renewed two-day celebration reaffirmed America's aberrant love affair with unnatural affection while defiantly staring into the empty eyes of death.

Oh, well... maybe our country never got the memo that God is calling us all to repent, "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14if 'MY PEOPLE, who are called by MY NAME, (the Church) will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:13-14, NIV)."

Or, maybe, just maybe... we did get that message afterall but simply decided to exercise our roguish freedom by turning a blind eye and a deaf ear, "All day long I/God opened my arms to a rebellious people. But they follow their own evil paths and their own crooked schemes... My people say, 'We have broken loose and we are free to roam at will; We will no longer come to You/God (Isaiah 65:2 - NLT, Jeremiah 2:31 - Amplified Bible).'"

In our daily news, we tragically hear the haunting echo of Revelation 9:20, "The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent," but nevertheless, God is not finished with us yet while He waits for His Church to vicariously repent for those who refuse to repent for themselves.

"Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, 'Spare Your people, O LORD, And do not give Your heritage to reproach (Joel 2:17 - NKJV).'"
