The Willow Springs Ministerial Alliance is hosting a Lenten Luncheon and Devotional at Willow Springs United Methodist Church, 311 North Harris Street, Willow Springs, every Wednesday during Lent from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The location is provided by WS UMC and a host church will provide the luncheon soup, sandwich, dessert, and coffee, water or other drink as well as the devotional.
This is a free luncheon, however donations will be accepted to aid in the WSMA’s benevolence work in our community.
What is Lent and why is it celebrated?
During Lent, many Christians observe a period for self-examination through prayer, fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial, and spiritual discipline. The purpose of the Lenten season is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ, to consider His suffering and his sacrifice, His life, death, burial, and resurrection.
When is Lent?
It is a period of 40 days, excluding Sundays, between Ash Wednesday and Easter, as every Lord’s Day is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This year’s schedule:
March 3: hosted by First Baptist Church, Joel Hinds, speaker
March 10: hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fr. Sherman wall, speaker
March 17: hosted by First General Baptist, Pastor Scott Williamson, speaker
March 24: hosted by St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Scott Chamberlin
