Lifeguard courses March 17-18, April 22-23 and May 20-21

The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department will host three lifeguard courses this spring at the West Plains Civic Center.
The classes are for those who would like to work at the West Plains Civic Center indoor pool or the City of West Plains' outdoor aquatic center.
The courses are set for March 17-18, April 22-23 and May 20-21. They are part of the Jeff Ellis and Associates International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP).
Candidates must pass a written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher, pass individual technical performance exams and pass simulation practical exams to qualify for licensing.
The first 12 students to register for each session will be accepted. Students must be 16 years of age before May 31, 2023, to take the classes.
MSU-WP Director of Fitness and Athletic Training Keri Elrod said this is a great opportunity for area residents who may be interested in a part time job at the local pools to obtain the required ILTP certification.
