“Sleepers in September” Collection

This month is the annual “Sleepers in September” collection. Too many babies do not have enough clothing or blankets to keep them warm during these cold winter months.
Newborns In Need is doing that for them in the best way they know how: sewing and knitting sleepers or sleep sacks to ensure that, no matter the circumstances, babies stay warm and comfortable. You can help by donating materials for us to create the sleep sacks.
Newborns in Need (NIN) Ozark Chapter will also collect quilts, receiving blankets, and new, unused sleepers in sizes 0-12 months during its annual Sleepers in September clothing drive. Additional baby clothing, such as onesies, soaks, buntings and care items are also welcome. Monetary contributions to help in the purchase of material, such as flannel for receiving blankets, would be welcome. They can use yarn as well, as several members knit or crochet items. Our area continues to have many babies who need help to stay clothed and warm. Any donations stay local.
The Ozark NIN chapter is among more than 60 chapters across the United States. Founded in 1992, NIN is a 501(c)(3) charity that responds to the needs of premature and newborn babies whose parents are experiencing a crisis situation and have difficulty providing the necessary items for their babies. NIN chapters also provide bereavement items for those parents experiencing an unexpected death of a newborn. Our chapter donates between 200 to 400 baby items each month. These items are made by a group of 8-10 volunteers and go to 11 locations. NIN’s guiding principle is “One Heart, One Mission; Serving All God’s Children.” You may contact Jeanne Roles, 417-247-1479, to arrange for any donation to be picked up.
