Accidental Shooting Claims Life of Child

Investigation remains ongoing after a child died in an accidental shooting in West Plains on July 1. Howell County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators responded simultaneously to the scene on County Road 3010 at approximately 3:45 in the afternoon. 

Prior to their arrival, deputies and first responders encountered the child en route to the hospital on US Highway 160. The child was transferred to EMS care and taken to the hospital. The gunshot wound the child suffered to the upper torso proved fatal. 

Deputies and investigators later proceeded to the residence to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. On July 9, the Sheriff’s office confirmed the investigation continues.
