BURN BAN

After a string of red flag warnings with no significant rainfall in the forecast, Howell County is under a burn ban. The County Commission signed the ban on March 20. No burning of any kind is allowed. The careless discard of still-smoldering smoking materials is prohibited. Violators may be charged with a misdemeanor. 

 

Local fire departments have responded to so many calls it has proved impractical to report accurate numbers of brush fires and other fire-related responses. Calls for fire service were increasing almost by the hour last week. 

 

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
