Car smashes into WP Dollar Tree

A two-year-old child was airlifted for treatment of a serious head injury after a sedan smashed into the Dollar Tree on Mitchell Rd. in West Plains. First responders received a call about a motor vehicle that had crashed into a structure with a possible victim trapped underneath at about 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, according to a release from the West Plains Police Department. First responders removed the child from the scene for treatment prior to police arrival.
Once on scene, officers discovered a 78-year-old male driver had crashed his Buick LeSabre through the front wall of the store and into the retail area inside. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. WPPD did not respond before press time to a question asking whether the driver will face criminal charges.
Building officials from the City of West Plains inspected the building and determined there was no structural damage to the storefront that should prevent them from reopening.
