Charges Filed Against Driver who Fled from Sheriff’s Deputies

Orvil David Doran, 31, of West Plains, has been charged with one count of resisting arrest for a felony. The charge stems from the events in last week’s front page story that detailed Doran’s progress as he fled first from Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers, then from Howell County Sheriff’s deputies. The chase began near Willow Springs, through the four-way stop and out of town into Douglas County before finally coming to an end near Cabool in Texas County.
For much of the chase, Doran was driving at high speeds on a bare rim and leaving a trail of sparks as he fled.
After he was apprehended on October 4, he remained in Howell County Jail on a warrant. The felony charge pertaining to the pursuit was filed on October 12.
According to the probable cause statement filed by Howell County Deputy Travis Weaver, Doran is a danger to the community because he “evaded law enforcement and created substantial risk to himself and officers involved. Doran drove his motor vehicle at speed over 100 miles per hour while missing a tire on the rear of his vehicle...Doran was also found to be in possession of a non-functioning firearm, and he is a felon.”
There were no firearms or drug offenses filed with the resisting arrest charge.
As of press time, Doran remains jailed on a $5,000 bond pending the results of a bond hearing on October 18.
