City of Mountain View holds tax rate hearing, swears in city treasurer

Mountain View's annual tax rate hearing last Monday lasted a mere 15 minutes, ending during an outburst by an audience member critiquing the city for not "going above and beyond" to post notice of the hearing on Facebook. The city met statutory requirements for giving notice by posting the notice in three public places. Mayor Charry McCann tried to get the hearing back on track, but facing a string of profanity and taunts of "dictator!" and "Scary Charry!," the board and the mayor dismissed themselves from the hearing and left the chamber.

 

Approximately ten minutes later, the board entered the chamber to begin the meeting which was scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. After the board approved the agenda, they entered into closed session where they remained for an hour. Upon their return, Mayor McCann announced the creation of a Golf Course Advisory Board. Anyone interested in serving on this board should contact the Mountain View City Hall for information.

 

Old Business:

-The board approved moving a CD in the amount of $135,801.10 to a new fund to satisfy the requirements put in place by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for the Wastewater Collection System Project. e money will be split up with 1/3 going into the replacement fund and 2/3 for the operation and maintenance.

 

New Business:

-Jennifer Jennings was appointed the new city treasurer

-Jennifer Jennings, Makenna, Smith and Jessica Smith were approved as authorized bank account signatures

-Resolution No. 24-08-26-01 supporting an application by MACO Development Co., LLC was approved

-Resolution No. 24-08-26-02 was approved, updating the signature of the authorized official (Mayor Charry McCann)

-Resolution No. 24-08-26-03 was approved, setting the City of Mountain View Property Tax Levy or 2024 at $0.00
