City of West Plains thanks voters for passing of sales tax continuation

The City of West Plains would like to thank the voters who voted in the August 2 Primaries. On the ballot was the city’s proposed continuation of the Capital Improvement Sales Tax. City voters approved the measure with nearly 64 percent of the votes. In total, 1,019 people voted in favor of the continuation and 574 voted against it. These results are pending certification by Howell County.
“We would like to thank our residents for renewing the capital improvement sales tax,” said city administrator Sam Anselm. “This funding source is critical in making sure we continue to provide the type of quality emergency response, infrastructure and amenities that our citizens expect and deserve.”
With the passing of the continuation, the city is now looking for residents to serve on the newly formed Sales Tax Review Committee. If interested, residents can fill the attached application (applications can also be found online at westplains.gov) or call city hall (417-256-7176) if they have any questions about it.
The Capital Improvement Sales Tax, first approved by voters in 1990, helps to fund the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP is a community planning and fiscal management tool to coordinate the location, timing, and financing of capital improvements over a multi-year period. The CIP is reviewed and updated annually to meet the evolving needs of the community.
