Columnist wins Missouri Writers’ Guild Award

Howell County News columnist Lonnie Whitaker won the first-place award in the Best Newspaper Category in the Missouri Writers’ Guild annual competition. This category is sponsored by Missouri Press Association. Whitaker’s award-winning column is "Valedictorian, Mizzou Golden Girl, and Professor," originally published on February 1, 2023. 

 

This is Whitaker’s second consecutive first-place win in this category.  Whitaker’s book, “The Way We Were”, which is 50 newspaper columns, received honorable mention in Non- fiction Books, and his children’s book, Mulligan and the All-Paws Golf Tournament won 3rd Place in the Children's Book category.
