County passes 2023 budget

A public hearing on the county budget proceeded last Monday, despite an ice storm that closed county offices, confirms County Clerk Kelly Waggoner. Members of the Howell County Commission as well as one member of the public braved the ice, and doors were open with posted signs inviting citizens to the Commission Chambers for the hearing.
Howell County Commissioners voted to approve total expenditures in 2023 in the amount of $30,202,495.07. Expected revenue in the upcoming year is projected to be $31,489,985.98, according to a summary published by the county.
General revenue is allotted $7.8 million of this total. Roads and bridge spending is budgeted at $4.9 million for 2023. $5.4 million from the capital improvement sales tax fund is also earmarked for highways and roads.
With the passing of the 2023 budget, the Commission was able to approve January's payroll expenses, Waggoner confirmed.
