Drug Arrests in Mtn. View

On October 31, Officer Lisa Noble initiated a traffic stop on Highway 60 in Mountain View. A MULES check showed that both the driver, Catherine Farra, of Kansas City, and the passenger, Thomas Smith, of Urich, had active warrants. Smith, in fact, had an active felony nationwide extradition warrant from Miller County. After the arrest of the occupants, Officer Noble conducted a search of the vehicle.

In plain view was a glass pipe. The search uncovered 66 grams of a crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a baggie of marijuana, multiple items of paraphernalia including baggies, scales, butane fuel, and pipes, as well as $900 in cash.

The vehicle was towed to the scene while the suspects were taken to Howell County Jail. Both parties were charged with second degree drug trafficking, a class C felony on November 1.

Farrar remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. She was denied public defender representation at a hearing on November 3. An indigency hearing is set for November 9, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled before Judge R. David Ray on November 13.

Smith remains in custody on a $50,000 bond as well. He pled not guilty on November 3. Smith is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on November 13 before Judge Ray.
