A Colquitt, Ga. man remains in custody after fleeing from Howell County Sheriff’s deputies on September 30. Brandon T. Jones, 23, has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest by fleeing.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Deputy Dakota Millard, Jones was speeding on Luna Dr. in West Plains and fled when law enforcement initiated a traffic stop. As the deputy gave chase, he observed the subject’s vehicle blow a tire, drive in the opposing lane of traffic, overcorrect, and flip multiple times. The vehicle crashed into a ditch on US Highway 60.
Jones climbed out of the back windshield, jumped a fence, and began to flee on foot.
Deputy Millard apprehended Jones, who continued to fight on the ground until he was finally subdued in handcuffs.
A search of the subject’s person located a bag of a white crystalline substance and “a large amount of money.” In plain view in the vehicle was another bag of a white crystalline substance and a loaded handgun with a round in the chamber. An inventory of the vehicle located different pouches containing “large amounts of U.S. currency” and drug paraphernalia.
Jones requested medical attention, and EMS checked and released him back into police custody.
Formal charges were filed on September 30. Jones pled not guilty before the Honorable R. David Ray on October 1. He remains jailed on bond of $50,000.
