Girdley St. Closed Due to Crash

Girdley Street in West Plains is closed following a one-vehicle crash on Friday where a trash truck impacted the railroad overpass. Shortly after 1:00 pm on March 21, a trash truck was heading west on Girdley Street, traveling toward the railroad overpass. The overpass has a 10-foot height restriction. As the truck went to pass under the overpass, it struck the overhead structure. West Plains Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. As of press time, it is unclear whether any of the occupants of the vehicle were injured. It did appear there was some form of impact on the inside of the passenger side of the truck due to visible damage on the windshield of the vehicle. BNSF officials arrived around 1:30 pm, and at 2:19 pm, the city announced that the road from Holiday Lane to Old Airport Road would be temporarily closed to allow BNSF Railroad to perform necessary work on the train tracks in that area. At this time, there is not an estimated timeline for reopening.
