Hannah Harper Day to feature parade, free concert

Hannah Harper will be the guest of honor at Hannah Harper Day, in Willow Springs on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The day’s activities will include music downtown in the afternoon, a parade through town, and a free evening concert. The events are being coordinated through the city of Willow Springs and the Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Harper is a contestant on the current season of American Idol, which is airs on ABC. Her audition song “String Cheese,” went viral with more than forty million views and charted on both Apple Music and Billboard charts.  As of press time, Harper made it to the top 7 in the competition. That number will be whittled to the top 5 by the publication date. If Harper advances to the top 3, Willow Springs will be featured on national television.

Regardless, city leaders agree Harper’s accomplishments deserve recognition. T-shirts celebrating Hannah Harper Day will be available for purchase at City Hall.

Downtown celebration

A line-up of local talent will set the stage for the evening festivities. On the main stage will be Brady Walton, The Greer Family, and Brandy Lee.

Downtown businesses are encouraged to decorate in a patriotic theme.

“It’s a chance for Willow Springs to put our best foot forward. While we’re small, we’re very capable of coordinating an event like this, a fun, family-focused day,” said media coordinator Kim Rich. “It’s an opportunity for downtown businesses to welcome people who might not otherwise have found us. Hopefully, they’ll come back.”

Parade

The public is encouraged to bring parade entries similar to the annual Fourth of July parade. As usual, only licensed drivers will be permitted to drive along the parade route and all entries must be decorated in a patriotic theme. No candy will be thrown. More details regarding parade lineup and route will be announced at a later date.

Civic groups, churches, businesses, and individuals who would like to help sponsor events or to volunteer during the event are encouraged to contact city hall at 417-469-2107.

Concert

The evening’s free concert will be at 7 p.m. at Palenske Field, the Willow Springs High School football field. Parking areas will be designated throughout town with free shuttle service available to the football field. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are not required and seating is general admission. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to sit on the football fields.

The concert is free. Various contributors from the community will be giving away snacks and other items. Anyone interested in contributing to the free concert should contact the Chamber of Commerce.
Organizers are projecting thousands of visitors to Willow Springs on Hannah Harper Day, especially if the events are televised. Volunteers for coordination and clean are desired. Contact the Chamber of Commerce to volunteer.
