Howell County Commission Agendas

The Howell County Commission met on May 12 and 16.
Last week, the commission reviewed and considered three bids. On May 12, the bids for consideration were for two 2023 dump trucks, one with a 16-foot dump bed and one with a 14-foot dump bed. On May 16, they reviewed bids for sixty 15-inch by 24-foot corrugated steel galvanized culverts.
The commission heard from two county departments regarding grants. On May 12, representatives from the Sheriff’s Office brought two grants to the commissioners for consideration. On May 16, the 37th Judicial Circuit Court met with the commission regarding Grant 17-17.
In other business, the commissioners were scheduled to amend the contract with MERMAC Regional Planning Commission for asbestos inspection on May 12. They also considered a full-time position on the upcoming August 2 ballot.
For the foreseeable future, agendas will include discussion to appoint a board member to the Health Department Board and to consider and award American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) requests. According to County Clerk Kelly Waggoner, the county is in the “beginning stages of decisions” regarding ARPA funding, but early discussion has tended towards using the funds for infrastructure.
Agendas regularly include approving any accounts payable and recognizing any guests who appear.
Your Howell County commissioners are Presiding Commissioner Mark Collins, Northern Commissioner Calvin Wood, and Southern Commissioner Billy Sexton. The commission meets  in regular session on Mondays and Thursdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The meetings remain open during the lunch hour and are open to the public. Contact the commissioners’ chamber by phone at (417) 256-3872.
