Howell County News wins four awards in statewide contest

At the Better Newspaper Contest awards luncheon in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, Howell County News owners Ron and Amanda Mendez accepted four awards. The contest is organized by Missouri Press Association. Howell County News is a Class 2 publication with a circulation of more than 2,000 but less than 5,000, and competes against storied weeklies like the Washington Missourian, the winner of this year’s Class 2 Gold Cup.
This year’s awards to Howell County News are:
First Place – Best Information Graphic for “Who erred on Aaron?” (timeline), Ron Mendez
Second Place – Best Editorial for “The role of a small-town newspaper in 2023,” Amanda Mendez
Second Place – Best Investigative Reporting for “Who erred on Aaron?,” Amanda Mendez
Second Place – Best Story about Government for “Who erred on Aaron?,” Amanda Mendez
