A Salem, Mo., man is facing charges of assault-third degree and property damage-first degree after an incident at a horse show on June 8, 2024.
Deputy J. Three-eagles with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department responded to a call for service at the Fox Trotters' event in Ava, Mo. He made contact with individuals and witnesses who stated they saw Jimmy Bell, of Salem, assault an individual after the event's board decided not to him to enter his horse two hours after the initial registry was closed, according to a probable cause statement.
The victim stated that Bell became irate and began to cuss and scream while walking away after the decision. Later in the day, Bell became irate again, throwing a beer can at the victim and throwing punches as he jumped out of a side by side.
A witness saw the victim fall to the ground and Bell kicking him and over the top of him.
During the altercation, a subject vehicle that was not involved in the incident sustained over $2,000 in damages.
Bell was indicted by a Douglas County Grand Jury on January 23, 2025 for assault-third degree and property damage-first degree, both class E felonies. Authorities in Dent County arrested Bell on the said warrant, and Bell has since posted a $2,500 cash bond. He is to appear in court February 19, 2025 in Douglas County for his arraignment.
