Local Aviators Attend AirVenture

The last week of July over twenty area aviation enthusiasts and Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1218 members attended the EAA’s AirVenture, Oshkosh 2021 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  It is billed as the world’s largest airshow and lived up to the name.  There were over ten thousand aircraft, seven hundred forty-seven exhibitors spread over two hundred acres. 608,000 from all over the world were in attendance.
Area members from 9-80 years old enjoyed the daily airshows, the fireworks following the evening airshows, the incredible array of displays and exhibits and the multitude of workshops covering every aspect of building your own airplane and aircraft ownership.  A visit to a cove on Lake Winnebago offered a pontoon boat ride to view the array of seaplanes moored there.  A visit to the Fun Fly Zone evening’s Twilight Flight Fest gave an opportunity to watch up close flights, takeoffs and landings on a grass runway. Powered parachutes, ultralight planes and the STOL (short takeoff and landings) competitions were exciting to watch.
Admission for youth 18 and under was no charge this year thanks to a generous sponsorship by Boeing.
EAA Chapter 1218 meets monthly in Willow Springs.  All area aviation interests are welcome to attend.  For information, please visit our website  https://chapters.eaa.org/eaa1218  or call 417 233-1218.
