Everett Stubbert, 33, of Emminence faces first degree murder and armed criminal action charges after turning himself in to the Shannon County Sheriff's Office on January 14.
The body of David J. Alley was found in the brush outside an Eminence residence on January 13. Shannon County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol immediately treated the matter as a homicide because Alley’s body was covered in apparent stab wounds. In the course of their investigation, law enforcement interviewed Alley’s family members, including his brother-in-law, Stubbert.
In an interview after turning himself in, Stubbert explained he learned of a physical altercation between Alley and his wife, the defendant’s sister. According to the probable cause statement for the charges, Stubbert “made the decision to kill Alley because of the violence against his sister."
While under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol, Stubbert obtained a kitchen knife and confronted Alley in the street and killed him.
Stubbert returned to his residence and burned his clothes and the knife. Using information provided by the accused, investigators located a burn site with partially burned clothing and a kitchen knife.
Formal charges were filed against Stubbert on January 15, and he has remained in Shannon County Jail since the time of his confession. He has no bond.
At his arraignment on January 18, Stubbert pled not guilty. He is scheduled to appear for a counsel and bond hearing on January 25 before the Hon. Sandra Brewer.
