Same (Angel) Garden, new soil

The Angel Garden has re-opened in its new Oak Street location. After twenty-five years on Elm Street, the iconic Mountain View business has relocated to the heart of downtown. Now operating at 119 N. Oak St. in the former location of Dr. Ream’s Optometry, the florist, boutique, and coffee shop clearly has not skipped a beat. When Howell County News stopped by on Saturday morning, the shop was elbow-to-elbow full of baby shower participants.

The Elm Street location closed on April 13, and the business was open again on April 16.

According to Jessica Ege, the new location is a little smaller, but she is optimistic and excited about what she can do with the new space. Angel Garden has the same, if not more, floral selection, than before. The coffee and retail offerings are the same, with one notable addition – they are now carrying Melissa and Doug items. For now, the hours are the same, and so is the phone number.

Ege and her husband, Joe, bought Angel Garden from founders Robin and Dennis Weaver in 2022. They bought the business, but not the building. The real estate changed hands, and so Angel Garden needed a new home. The Elm Street location is now occupied by a vendor market called The Flea, a second location of the Ruffwood Market owned by Sara Chowning.

“One less empty spot in Mountain View!” Ege said Saturday morning. She is pleased to see the Elm Street location filled with a new business.

“I’m excited to own such a rich piece of Mountain View history,” said Chowning. “My husband and I are thrilled to be able to help bring more life to our downtown area. I’m so excited for Jess and her new location and can’t wait to see how she thrives in her new environment.”

Oak Street is closed to traffic, but sidewalks are open to pedestrians to access the businesses. The street is projected to reopen in early May, and Angel Garden will host a grand re-opening at that time, Ege said.
