Senior Center receives memorial donation

The family of the late Ronald K. Lawson made a generous donation to the Willow Springs Senior Center last week. Lawson’s sisters Bonnie Darnell and Betty Hummell sat calmly at a table on Friday morning. Nothing in their manner gave any hint of the size of the gift they brought to present to director Wilma Sheets.

The tears glistening in Sheets’ eyes as she read the check, however, spoke volumes.

The family gave the Senior Center five thousand dollars from the estate of their late brother.

“It is the biggest blessing,” Sheets said.

According to Sheets, Ronnie Lawson was a great supporter of the Senior Center’s lunches and programs. He was an avid pitch player who didn’t like to lose.

Sisters Bonnie and Betty smiled and agreed that Ronnie was “a pistol.”

Lawson passed away on June 5 at the age of 84. Except for his time serving in the United States Army, he was a lifelong resident of Willow Springs.
