The subject of a September 26 SWAT call may not face charges in Missouri, Shannon County Sheriff Darrin Brawley told Howell County News. Jimmy Jones, 39, remains in custody pending extradition to Colorado for multiple warrants for violent crimes.
“I’m not going to do anything to hold that up,” Sheriff Brawley said. Jones would face “minor” domestic violence charges in Shannon County, if any.
Shannon County Sheriff’s Deputies had been searching for Jones for months. He has multiple out-of-state warrants. On the run for months, Jones was known to be in the Birch Tree area.
Deputies responded to a Birch Tree residence for a report of a domestic assault, Sheriff Brawley said. Jones barricaded himself inside with weapons, a knife, a hatchet, and threatened deputies, according to a press release from Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
Shannon County’s Sheriff’s Department does not have a SWAT unit, so they called in the Howell County unit, who responded at approximately 2:18 p.m. Law enforcement began negotiations with Jones, who refused to cooperate. Non-lethal tactics allowed officers to gain access to the home, and bean bag rounds were deployed to finally take Jones into custody.
Jones had exited the home with a knife in his waistband and had refused orders to get down on his hands and knees, said the release.
Jones’ charges in Colorado are for gang-related violence. The accused has numerous gang-affiliated tattoos, the sheriff said.
Sherriff Brawley would like to reiterate his thanks to Sheriff Brent Campbell of Howell County and the SWAT unit.
“They were here quick. They know when we call, it’s serious,” Brawley said.
